Compare and Contrast Obama and GW Bush
I've heard people on the right saying Obama is a lousy president. Of course they were saying it before he was even president and without any facts to back them up so their saying it now means nothing to anyone.
Still, though, is Obama a good president? The best way to tell is to compare him to his predecessor, George W. Bush.
From a glance, here are the big accomplishments and disasters of the Bush presidency:
- Lying us into an illegal war in Iraq
- Partying while thousands of Americans drowned during Katrina
- Vacationing while al Qaeda planned and executed 9/11
- Invading Afghanistan even though none of the 9/11 terrorists were from there
- Invading two countries without an exit plan for either
- Opening America's first and only torture camp, Gitmo
- Black site torture camps around the world
- Defended torture
- Protected us against terrorists attacks after 9/11 except the hundreds of cases where he didn't, including the shoe bomber, the anthrax attacks and more
- The government outed a covert CIA anti-terrorist team for political gain but no investigation has ever been done to bring justice to the traitor
- Actively participated in the greatest economic collapse in the past 80 years
- Illegally spying on Americans
- Pushed through the Patriot Act which has stripped Americans of most of our civil liberties guaranteed by the Bill of Rights.
- States forbidden from enacting federal fuel efficiency standards above federal standards
- Higher drug costs for seniors
- Implemented countless obstructions to save and legal abortions even when medically necessary
- Advanced failed abstinence-only sex education
- Destroyed the founding fathers' separation of church and state
- Destroyed America's economy while giving his base trillions of dollars in tax breaks through tax cuts for the billionaires and failing to tax estates of deceased billionaires
- Passed the No Child Left Behind act that gave billions of dollars to his brother's school testing company
- Unilaterally withdrew from the Kyoto Treaty and opened the doors for the carbon energy industry to increase profits while poisoning our air and waters
- Started the bogus War on Terror which as no border and no definition for winning
- Signed nuclear arms reduction agreements with Russia
- Increased defense spending by billions and billions of dollars
I have diligently tied to find a reasonable list to link to but all I can find on the Internet are posts about what an honorable and upstanding person he is which contradicts any reason as well as the opinions of presidential scholars around the world. However I did find a couple sites that do a good job of listing Bush's not so beneficial accomplishments.
Okay, if I've missed anything, either good or bad, feel free to add to the list.
Now for Obama's accomplishments and disasters:
- Hasn't closed Gitmo yet though he is working on cleaning it out
- Stopped the black ops torture sites
- Hasn't rescinded the Patriot Act
- Continues Bush's policies of stripping Americans of our liberties
- Working on getting America out of Iraq while escalating Afghanistan.
- Stopped the one million job losses per month from the Bush years
- Passed enforcement for equal pay for women
- Passed the Matthew Shepard Act to help reduce hate crimes
- Families of fallen soldiers have expenses covered to be on hand when the body arrives at Dover AFB
- Ended media blackout on war casualties
- Honoring Freedom of Information requests
- Limits on White House aides working for lobbyists after their tenure in the administration
- Removed restrictions on embryonic stem-cell research
- States are permitted to enact federal fuel efficiency standards above federal standards
- Financial industry reform
- Promoting hybrid autos with tax breaks
- Ended Bush's policy of not regulating and labeling carbon dioxide emissions
- Lower drug costs for seniors
- Ended Bush's policy of awarding no-bid defense contracts
- Passed Health Care Reform which America has been trying to do for many decades

It is pretty obvious that Bush and Obama are about as different as fire and ice. Does anyone really want to bring back the Bush years? God I hope not.

I love it. Great post! Yes, there are too many similarities for my liking but at least he aint's Bush!
My GAWD! Did Bush really do all those things? Why is anyone still voting republican?
Bush is going down in history as one of America's worst presidents. History will not view him favorably.

Well, Tracy, if you want to disprove anything or add anything new, feel free. Just saying it's inaccurate doesn't make it so.
What books do you think we should read? Something by O'Liely, maybe? Ann Coulter? There is an entire industry out there that does fact/lie checking on the conservative revisions. Maybe you're suggesting we read those?

It's been a while since I first read this but it's as accurate today as it was back then. Unfortunately, Obama hasn't done much since then.
Bush has done a lot, though. He came out on the 9/11 commemoration ceremonies this past weekend and failed to apologize to America for falling down on the job, for taking vacation after vacation while al Queda planned and executed their attack.
Then, Bush claimed that we killed bin Laden because of Bush's early planning. What a crock. This, from the man who admitted he didn't really think much about bin Laden anymore.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, and I agree heartily with your side by side assessment of the situation. It feels like when we vote for a President, it's more a matter of picking the lesser of the evils than picking the best of the best. Our choices are limited to those from the privileged upper classes - as they seem to be the only ones with the "right" connections and who can afford to run. Realistically, Bush sucked as president and his revenge wars ruined our economy. Realistically, Obama has not done some of the things he should have done to set right the wrongs of the Bush Administration. Still, I'd take an ineffectual milquetoast like Obama (though he is continually being hamstrung by a staunchly anti-Obama anything Republican majority Congress) - over a deceitful and ill-spoken warmonger like Bush.
I was never a fan of GW nor am I a fan of Obama,however this is clearly a biased written piece. I am at least more informed and try to live in reality and not full of hatred. As was previously written, many of you need to get a reality check and read some history books.
